Match Me If You Can | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Emma Badame AWFJ.org With a lower budget than many of its contemporaries, the new film has a touch of the Hallmark about it and, despite some engaging supporting performances and a few charming moments, is likely to appeal only to true rom-com devotees. Slow to start, it’s a cute premise brought current using high speed internet and a series of clicks. Aug 8, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Sally Q I went I thinking it would be just a regular old rom com but its actually more than that. I mean it is a rom com but it has something to say about being yourself and being enough whether you have a partner or not. I love Kips friends and how supportive they are to her. Its a real feel good movie. I want to have it in my library so on down days I can watch it and feel better. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/13/23 Full Review Louise E Loved it. Fantastic message Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/05/23 Full Review Kristen O I really liked the main character, Kip, and how I think many people can relate to feeling "unmatchable" and her pluck and perseverance. I also loved her work colleagues, (hello, Brian George!!) and how they rally around her. Sure there are some saccharine moments, but I will take all of the sweetness and romance and hope in my films these days given the world we live in. Plus a hermit crab called Jones kinda steals the show! Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/24/23 Full Review Happy D I'm a sucker for romcoms, and sometimes, that ends up being the case. Match Me If You Can fails on nearly every level, but I gave it an extra full star for demonstrating that women can make movies filled with stupid, sexist (and at a couple points, kinda racist and lightly homophobic) tropes, too. I won't belabor the weak writing, poor direction, phonecam cinematography, and total lack of chemistry between the leads. Instead, I'm going to do something the movie couldn't: Amuse myself. And I'm going to do it by outflanking it from the left. Hey, remember when the "friend zone" was a tool of oppression used by incels to something something misogyny? Neither does this movie. Also, it has no problem with the protagonist coercing a woman into a date with her friend. Also also, just *don't* have a white person try to matchmake the only two age-appropriate brown Asian people she knows. It's weird and kinda racist. And don't try to queerwash your gay jokes with an onscreen gay couple. We're past I-have-a-gay-friend excuses. *Everything* has LGBTQ+ representation in it, now, so how about it's time *not* to try for laughs by supposing Chewbacca is gay? Speaking of stupid decisions, Riley Detamore? Did they sit up all night thinking of that one? What, was Gui Forloops Shoegaze taken? Don't watch this movie. Georgina Reilly did her best, though.
