A young designer's vision is shaping the future of Queensland's infrastructure! Kyle Jones, an emerging talent at Populous, has been awarded the prestigious IAQ Future Infrastructure Leader Scholarship for 2026.
But what sets Kyle apart? It's his unique design philosophy, centered on creating a sense of connection and belonging. He believes in designing public spaces that bring people together, fostering a welcoming environment for newcomers and energizing long-time residents. And this is the part most people miss: his passion for live events and community-centric spaces.
"I aim to design spaces that enhance the way people live, move, and interact," Kyle explains. "I want to create a sense of belonging and connection, making Queensland an even more vibrant place to be." This philosophy has already made an impact on his work in sport and entertainment venue design.
Kyle's journey began at Populous in 2019, and he's currently pursuing a Master's in Architecture. As an Architectural Assistant in the Brisbane studio, he's making waves with his immersive designs, aiming to elevate the live event experience. And his passion doesn't stop at work; he's an avid sports fan and music enthusiast, drawing inspiration from the energy of these experiences.
Chris Paterson, a senior leader at Populous, praises Kyle's contribution: "Kyle's curiosity and drive are exceptional. He's already influencing venue design on a global scale, working on projects like the Las Vegas Sands Arena and Kai Tak Sports Park."
